Boardwalk Appeal
Don't want to get stuck in the mud?
Every winter we brace ourselves for the wet and muddy paths on our nature reserves and the damage and erosion it causes. These difficult conditions limit the conservation work that our teams are able to do, and it often means that visitors can’t access our reserves fully for long periods of time. Boardwalks are the perfect solution which we would love to install across many of our reserves.
We know how important getting out into nature is, especially during the darker, colder and wetter months. Better access around our sites on level, non-slip boardwalks will ensure more people can connect with wildlife and nature all year round.
One Plank at a Time
Langford Lakes already benefits from a flat level path suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and those with limited mobility. The path currently connects the car park, the Brockbank Centre and Kingfisher Café and four bird hides. We now need your help to extend that access to our new sand martin bank on the east side of the Long Pond. The path to the bank is currently very rutted and so muddy that on a recent visit, one of the team got a bit stuck and had to be rescued!
A raised, non-slip boardwalk with passing places would allow everyone to negotiate the 160-meter-long path safely and visit the sand martin bank.
We now need your help to raise £100,000 towards the cost of the groundwork and materials to build a durable and environmentally friendly timber boardwalk. Posts in the ground, a treated substructure and anti-slip strips for the decking will provide longevity and mean we can easily repair sections for years to come.
