Natures Recovery Fund
£294
of £50,000 goal
We face an ecological and climate emergency that is already impacting the three pillars of sustainable living: nature, people and our economy. Our strategy sets out how Wiltshire Wildlife Trust will restore nature rapidly and at scale, with two clear goals:
- Nature will be in recovery in Wiltshire and Swindon
- People will be taking action for nature
To achieve goal one, we need:
- 30% of land in positive management for nature
- Species abundance and diversity are increasing
- Natural processes restored
- Nature-based solutions being used to address the climate and water emergencies
The Nature Recovery Fund has been set up to support our work in this area.
Wiltshire has a spectacular but complex landscape:
- 55% of the UK’s chalk habitat is in Wiltshire, including internationally important chalk streams.
- 40% of Wiltshire is protected landscape designated for conservation or heritage reasons.
- 80% of the county is farmed.
- There are 135 critical species that our landscapes are particularly vital for supporting.
- Unseasonal weather patterns are causing habitats to change and are creating a challenging environment for many of our species, who are already struggling for survival.
To achieve our goal of nature being in recovery, we must carefully manage over 40 Wiltshire Wildlife Trust reserves and work in partnership with many organisations and farmer clusters across the county.
Your support will help us to:
- Identify and deliver nature-based solutions to tackle the impacts of changing climates causing increased flooding, river and land temperatures, and impacting soils across our own nature reserves and landholdings.
- Undertake increased monitoring to identify and scale effective habitat management practices that support the 135 listed critical species for Wiltshire and Swindon.
- Adapt land management techniques and undertaken innovative actions to enhance biodiversity and create resilience across our reserves and landholdings, embracing the best of the latest technology.
- Increase our work with other landowners and farmers, in support of actions, to deliver natures recovery.
- Create opportunities to support and train those entering the sector to create a larger, more diverse workforce of the future, filling current and future skills shortages.
- Work with our partners to create events and a physical hub to share learnings and support others in their journeys to adapt to the changing climate and adopt more nature friendly land management practices.
- Champion nature and biodiversity at a local, national and international level. Producing engaging campaigns to influence at all levels to create a more sustainable future for people and nature.
